Forgotten Homeless Program

The Homeless Needs Program was founded in 2009 the day a homeless man died of the cold across the street from the San Diego Homeless Shelter. Since then, our program has grown to become a large mobile street team in our area, we are now currently servicing the DFW area and The Grand Bahamas.

Each month our team assembles in forgotten areas delivering sleeping bags, coats, hats, gloves and blankets in the colder weather — to those struggling to survive rough on the streets at random stops around the city. For many homeless, this is their only way to stay dry and warm in the colder seasons.

We also provide warm showers, hair cuts, and shaves, shoes and clothing items throughout the year.

In its 20 year history, the program has distributed more than several hundred thousand dollars of items and food — allowing us to build an invaluable level of trust among some of the hardest to reach and most marginalized of our homeless neighbors. Our team, which includes a Mobile Team, uses that trust to connect those on the streets with other life-changing services provided through HUGGS United such as referrals to psychiatric treatment, medical care, substance abuse treatment, or shelter and vital benefits offered by the Bridge and partner organizations.

Volunteers — who help us hand out the items and drive the vans — are the lifeblood of BOL-Homless Needs Program, and usually, commit to one day per month. We are thankful for all the services.

We thank Mississippi State University for all the perishable items this winter!!!

Veterans Program

TBOL has begun to partner with Simple Urban Homes in Sikeston MO, the program is designed to directly support homeless, low income, or at-risk veterans and their families. While most of the individuals in this population are already utilizing their VA benefits, there are some that are not. Our goal is not only to serve this population, but also to help connect them with VA services that could help them.   TBOL recognizes the courage and sacrifice of American veterans, particularly those who are injured in the line of duty. To honor their service, the Department participates in programs to help injured soldiers and disabled veterans gain a safe place to call home, we will focus on mainly providing homes for homeless veterans.

Children who have anger management problems will have access to our yoga and meditation program this program has enabled children to do meditation techniques and instead of them reacting and getting angry, they've learned how to meditate, breath and redirect their anger."

Meditation is a practice where an individual uses a technique – such as mindfulness, and focusing their mind on a particular object, thought or activity – to train attention and awareness, and achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm and stable state of mind.

Meditation has been practiced since antiquity in numerous traditions and beliefs, often as part of the path towards enlightenment and self-realization and mental clearness and well being.

Meditation is used with the aim of reducing stress, anger, anxiety, depression, and pain, and increasing peace, perception, self-concept, and well-being, making a way for our youth to have a brighter future.
